Statement of Ethos and Values

St. John's CE(C) Primary is a church school and we aim to promote a strong Christian character and develop Christian values in our pupils. Our distinctive Christian nature is re-affirmed through our collective worship programme, RE curriculum and inclusive approach to education. We enjoy good relationships with the local church who support us in our aim to be an effective foundation school.

St. John's CE(C) Primary School continually strives for excellence. Our approach is fundamentally simplistic but effective. All staff focus upon establishing positive relationships with pupils and creating bright attractive environments for them to work in. This supportive climate linked to high expectations of all pupils and a strong reward culture ensure that the children enjoy school, work hard and make progress.

All classes are mixed ability and we do not operate any streaming within the school as this is contradictory to our culture of high expectations for all. Our “All Gifted, All Talented “ statement captures the inclusive nature of our school and reminds us all that every child is equally important.

We believe in developing the whole child and have a tradition of encouraging sport and music within the school. Extra Curricula Clubs are taken by every member of staff on a voluntary basis and children are presented with the chance to enjoy a wide range of interests. Outdoor Education also features heavily with every child from Year 4 and above having the opportunity to attend a residential camp. In Year 6 every pupil has the chance to visit either Denmark or France to enjoy the experience of European travel.

We value the partnership with parents and aim to make ourselves approachable at all times. We recognise that parent support contributes hugely to our pupils' progress and we want them to understand how we work while also being there to listen and respond to any issues they may have.

Although a large number of our pupils reside outside of our catchment area we see ourselves as very much a community school. Our commitment to the village of Essington is evident in our partnership with local groups and remains an integral part of our school identity.
